Victim named in Bow murder

POLICE HAVE named the young man who died last weekend in Bow as Lamar Stewart, who lived in Mitcham and was attending a party in Ropery Street. A post mortem has confirmed that the cause of death was haemorrhage and stab wounds to the chest.

Police were called out to Ropery Street, E3, at approximately 2.30am on Saturday, 30th September, where there was said to be some sort of disturbance. When they arrived, they found the 21 year old victim in nearby Eric Street. He had been stabbed.

The air ambulance was called and paramedics treated the victim at the scene before taking him to an East London Hospital. Sadly Stewart died just before 5am. It is thought that some sort of disturbance broke out at the party and spilled on to the street, where he was stabbed.

Stewart’s family have now issued this statement: “We are absolutely devastated by this senseless act of crime. Lamar was a good boy, a hard working boy and loved. He was loved by absolutely everyone. As a family we are crushed. We are all so close as a family and to loose Lamar is something we don’t think we will ever recover from. Lamar was a loving boy who after every conversation told his mum and dad and siblings that he loved them. Lamar was the youngest to his twin sister, older sister and two brothers. Now the five of us siblings are completely broken. We have lost our baby. We just ask that if anyone knows anything they please contact the police. Only justice will slightly ease this pain.”

Detective Chief Inspector Andrew Packer from the Homicide and Major Crime Command is leading the investigation. He said, “Our enquiries so far have established there was a large group of young people from east and south London who attended this party and I need to trace as many people as possible to piece together the events that led to this murder.

“The stabbing occurred in the street and would have been clearly visible to passers-by and residents who may have been disturbed by the noise of the fight. This was a brutal attack that has taken a man’s life and I am urging anyone with information to come forward and speak to police.”

Anyone who was in the area, whether they witnessed the stabbing or not, or who has another other information is asked to contact the police via 101. Alternatively, you can call Crimestoppers on 0800-555 111, where you can give information anonymously.
