Man jailed for rape in Leyton park

MAN HAS been sentenced to life imprisonment, with a requirement to serve a minimum of 16 years, following his conviction for sexually assaulting and raping a teenager in Leyton’s Jubilee Park. He was also placed on the Sex Offenders’ Register for life.

Otis Morrow, 38, of High Road, Leyton, pleaded not guilty to the offences when he appeared at Thames Magistrates’ Court on 20th April. The case was transferred to Snaresbrook Crown Court, where he was sentenced last week.

The offences occurred on 19th April. The victim had been in the Park when Morrow approached her and asked if she had a light for his cigarette.  He fell into conversation with her and then lured her into a secluded part of the park, where he assaulted her and raped her.

The young victim was highly distressed but was able to call police, who came to the park and found her. She described her assailant and police were able to identify him and arrest him the same day.

Investigating officer Detective Constable Henry Marshall said, “This was a horrible attack… I hope the sentence served will allow her to move on with her life and be a warning to those intent on causing harm to others.”
