DETECTIVES investigating the London Bridge terrorist attack have thanked the public for coming forward with information about the three pink knives used by the attackers to stab innocent victims. Police now believe they have identified where the terrorists obtained these weapons.
The police are now reminding the public that they are still looking for more information about the white van which the terrorists used. It is a white Renault van, registration number HN66 TKX. Anyone with any information about it is asked to phone police on 0800-789 321. Your information will be taken in confidence.
Police are also talking to companies which rent out vans, giving them information about how to identify and report suspicious behaviour.
Most of the people arrested in connection with the London Bridge attack have now been released without charge. At the moment, four remain in custody under suspicion of having committed an offence under one of the Terrorism Acts – two from Barking and one each from Ilford and Newham. A fifth person was encountered during this investigation and has now been charged with intent to supply controlled drugs and firearms offensives.
Since the London Bridge terror attacks, there appears to have been more anti-terror activity in East London – even in terms of investigations not connected directly with the ongoing work on the London Bridge incident.
•Counter-terrorism officers, supported by officers from the Territorial Support Group, carried out a raid on a residential property in Barking in the early hours of Tuesday last week. None of the police officers were carrying firearms.
•A 52 year old man was arrested on suspicion of disseminating terrorist publications, which is outlawed under the Terrorism Act 2006, and taken to a central London police station. The property was subjected to an intensive search. He was later identified as Khalid Javed Baqa of Barking and charged with production of extremist material encouraging others to commit acts of terrorism, contrary to Section 2 of the Terrorism Act 2006. Baqa appeared at Westminster Magistrates Court, where he was remanded in custody, to appear at the Central Criminal Court on 30th June.
•A second raid took place in east London late on Tuesday evening. On Wednesday morning, in an unconnected move, a 23 year old man was arrested on suspicion of collection of information or documents in contravention of the Terrorism Act 2000.
