HRF Team Ghana complete charity tour

After having travelled back from Tamale the night before, HRF Team Ghana took a two hour drive to visit the Gilead International School in Agona Asafo and met with the head teacher, staff and pupils.

The Gilead International School is situated in a remote area located about 90km outside of Accra, the capital city of Ghana. There are 100 students at the school, 56 of them girls and 44 boys, with ages ranging from two years old up until the age of 14.

The majority of the students live in small villages up to seven miles away from the school. The school tried to set up a football academy which is run by one of the deputy heads, an ex-professional footballer.

While the management met with HRF Deputy CEO Kassim Tokan and officials to discuss plans for ongoing support for the school and academy, the coaches took to the field and delivered three training sessions before splitting up and joining the children for a competitive game.

In the battle of the head coaches, a brace by Abdal Ahmed was not enough for Agona as a classy Emdad Rahman hat trick saw Asafo come back from 2-1 down to win the game 3-2. Not even the on-field presence of playmaker Abu Nasir of GSV Sports Management was enough to dampen the Asafo victory surge.

Coach Abdal Ahmed spoke on behalf of the team, saying, “The time has come to say farewell to Ghana. It’s been a life changing experience! This is a special country with amazing people and we have made memories and friends for life. My heartfelt thanks to all the people who donated to our project, you have given confidence, hope and joy to hundreds.”

Khoyrul Shaheed from the Human Relief Foundation concluded, “Whenever I travel, my friends and family always request me to make dua for them. The greatest gift we possess is the ability to do good and bring positive changes in the lives of our fellow humans. If you would like to make a difference, then don’t hesitate to contact me directly. I will only be too glad to assist.”
