FOUR MEN FROM East London have today (Thursday, 25th May) been charged with offences under the Terrorism Act.
They were arrested on Wednesday, 17th May following a counter-terrorism investigation. They have been remanded in custody and will appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Friday, 26th May.
The Metropolitan Police issued the following details of the men and the charges.
[A] Umar Ahmed Haque, 24, from Newham was charged with an offence contrary to s5 Terrorism Act 2006, between 25 March 2017 and 18 May 2017 with the intention of committing acts of terrorism engaged in conduct in preparation for giving effect to that intention; and four offences under s58 of the Terrorism Act 2000, possessing a record of information that was of a kind likely to be useful to a person committing or preparing an act of terrorism.
[B] Muhammad Abid, 27, from Newham was charged with an offence under s38B(1)(a) Terrorism Act 2000, on or before 26 March 2017, where he had information which he knew or believed might be of material assistance in securing the apprehension, prosecution or conviction of another, namely Umar Haque, in the United Kingdom, for an offence involving the commission, preparation or instigation of an act of terrorism, did not disclose the information to a constable as soon as reasonable practicable.
[C] Abuthaher Mamun, 18, from Barking was charged with charged with an offence contrary to s5 Terrorism Act 2006, between 25 March 2017 and 18 May 2017 with the intention of assisting another to commit acts of terrorism, engaged in conduct in preparation for giving effect to that intention.
[D] Nadeem Ilyas Patel, 25, from Newham was charged with an offence contrary to section 1(1) of the Criminal Law Act 1977, on 30 March 2017 conspired together with Umar Haque, to possess any firearm or imitation firearm with intent to cause fear of violence.
