Drugs and guns seized in West Yorks

Mohammed Abbas, 29, and Rameez Anjum, 26, of Cross Road, Bradford, have been charged with conspiracy to supply class A drugs. They were arrested in West Yorkshire on 18th August – together with Shaun Kellett, 40 of no fixed abode, who has been charged with the same offence.

The arrests followed an investigation led by the National Crime Agency’s Armed Operations Unit. After the arrests, a number of properties were searched and officers found several kilos of heroin, as well as various drug paraphernalia consistent with the large scale supply of class A drugs.

During the searches, a handgun was found in one of the properties, as a result of which Rameez Anjum was also charged with possession of a firearm. Ammunition found during the searches is being analysed and may lead to further charges.

The three have been remanded in custody until 16th September, when they will attend a hearing at Leeds Crown Court.   Brent Lyon, Operations Manager for the NCA’s Armed Operations Unit said, “Our investigation relates to the supply of large quantities of class A drugs across West Yorkshire. We believe these arrests have significantly disrupted the activities of this well organised crime group. The seizure of a firearm and ammunition indicates the violent nature of those involved in this level of criminality.”
