Canning Town stab victim named

THE POLICE have named the 17 year old who suffered fatal stab wounds in Canning Town during the evening of 14th February. He is Lord Promise Nkenda, who used the name Promise. He was from Newham.

Formal identification is still awaited, as are the results of a post mortem. Police from the Homicide and Major Crime Command are investigating the killing.

Officers had previously announced that they had found a car abandoned on Freemasons Road, near the junction with Victoria Dock Road, E16 – close to the site where Promise was stabbed – Goldwing Close, E16.

They have now revealed that the vehicle was a black BMW estate, which had been stolen from Vaughan Rod, E15 some two hours before Promise was killed. Inquiries continue, to establish whether the vehicle is linked to the killing.

Detective Inspector Perry Benton, from the Homicide and Major Crime Command, is leading the investigation. He said, “While work continues to establish the motive and exact sequence of events which led to Promise’s murder, it appears he was the victim of a sustained and targeted attack. I would continue to appeal to anyone who has information that could assist this investigation to come forward and speak to police

“I am particularly keen to hear from anyone who saw a black BMW estate car in and around the area of Goldwing Close in the time prior to the murder.”

Anyone with information about the car or the killing is asked to contact the Homicide and Major Crime Command incident room on 020-8345 3775 or police via 101, quoting reference 8884/14FEB. Alternatively, you can call Crimestoppers on 0800-555 111, where you can give information anonymously.
