Body found at Canary Wharf

CONSTRUCTION WORKERS returning to work in Canary Wharf after the Christmas and New Year break discovered the body of a man. It is thought the body had been there for several days.

The body was found shortly after 8.30am in a deep trench, some 50ft below ground level, on a construction site in Bank Street.  Police and the ambulance service were called and the man was confirmed dead at the scene

The man has not yet been identified and he is not believed to have been one of the construction workers from the site. It is not yet clear whether the man died from the impact of the fall or whether he died as a result of being unable to climb out of the trench. His death is currently being treated as unexplained.
