Amazing LIS students respond to Burma appeal

Emdad Rahman

Students and staff at the London Islamic School, east London, teamed up to raise a whopping £11,000 to support some of the poorest and most persecuted citizens on the planet. Headteacher Abdul Hadi, staff and students dug deep to arrange a collection for the UK charity Ummah Welfare Trust to provide relief aid in Burma.

Charity and social responsibility is central to the aims of the school in preparing its students to be active and responsible citizens. In the past students at London Islamic School have raised £3000 for Richard House Hospice. The students received certificates and medals in appreciation of their fantastic contribution to the Ummah Welfare Trust Burma appeal.

Md Imran, UWT PR representative for Tower Hamlets and north London said, “London Islamic School should be proud of the civic engagement of its staff and pupils. The institute is an example of how to engage with all communities, be it litter picking locally, helping a hospice or an international aid effort. Well done to everyone for such a fantastic effort.”
